though morning temperatures were slated to be well below freezing. The Weather Bureau said there would be a temperature reading between 16 and 20 in Atlanta, with slightly warmer readings in the afternoon. The thermometers fell to 10 degrees Saturday morning, adding more misery to a frozen countryside.

Meanwhile, many citizens were still without lights and heat, due to snapped power lines, and without water due to frozen pipes. Utility crews continued their mop-up operations Saturday, hoping that electrical service would be restored to all by Sunday night. It was estimated that the ice storm which swept in Georgia had cost some $30,000,000 in loss of retail business, cost to the poultry industry in chickens killed and buildings damaged, broken lines and utility poles and extra man-hours and to transit companies. The loss ran much higher to the total populace.
