A Mysterious Malady Recently Developed in New York Appears in Indianapolis.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Dec. 29.—It developed yesterday that the peculiar disease of the eyes which is undergoing investigation by the health authorities of New York has made its appearance here, and is baffling the skill of physicians. A number of children are afflicted with it, and there is imminent danger that it will become epidemic. The family of Thomas Crawford is sorely afflicted. He and his wife and five children are suffering from the disease, the first case appearing in his family less than two weeks ago. The disease resembles ordinary conjunctivitis with the peculiarity of a pink circle around the corners, the lids being swollen and constantly discharging water and matter. It is highly probable that a thorough investigation will be ordered by the health authorities, especially in the public schools.
