Bell Pond Aqueduct. Judging from an exhibition of the powers of this aqueduct, which was witnessed by many of our citizens on Saturday afternoon, it is destined to fully realize the expectations of the most sanguine and to drown out the fears of the croakers. A hose and pipe were attached successively to several hydrants, and water thrown about the distance and with nearly as great force as from the ordinary fire engines. We noticed particularly, and with great pleasure, the playing of cold water in front of and upon the American Temperance House. Water was thrown upon the roofs of the buildings in the vicinity, and among them our office received its full quota—washing its exterior from dust and giving it a somewhat brightened appearance.

It would seem, with such an abundance of water, ready voluntarily, at the turning of the stop cock, to leap upon any building, together with our other precautions, that no fire can make great ravages in our midst. We believe this aqueduct is to be an invaluable auxiliary to safety from fire, and to add greatly to the cleanliness of the streets and the comfort of our citizens.

While upon this subject we can hardly refrain from expressing the earnest wish—should the supply of water be found sufficient—that measures may be taken for the erection of a fountain in the centre of our now pretty Common, but which would be rendered incomparably more so by such a beautiful and useful acquisition.
