Dakota's Prosperity.

Bismarck Tribune: Dr. C. J. Alloway, territorial veterinary surgeon, who has recently returned from an extended trip over the territory, says that while a small proportion of the agricultural districts have suffered somewhat for the want of rain, yet the average in Dakota for small grains will be largely in advance of former years. The corn and vegetable crop, too, will be large—larger, no doubt, than has been known in the history of Dakota. In central Dakota the crop will average up pretty well, many counties (notably Brown) having an exceptionally fine crop. Portions of southern and southwestern Dakota have suffered from drouth. This condition was more apparent in the Black Hills country than elsewhere. In the Mitchell, Yankton and Sioux Falls districts, the corn crop was admitted to be the best in that region for many years. Along the St. Paul, Minneapolis & Manitoba and Northern Pacific railways and their branches through the Red River valley, both in Minnesota and Dakota, the quality and quantity of wheat, oats and barley surpasses anything that was ever seen in the valley. There are many places where it is safe to say that the crop of wheat that is now being harvested will average fully thirty bushels per acre and not a few localities will go as high as forty bushels to the acre. The counties mentioned as exhibiting the highest general average on wheat and the small grains were the northern part of Cass, Traill, Grand Forks, Walsh, Pembina, Cavalier, Nelson, Griggs and Steele.

At the present time and possibly for the next two or three weeks a scene can be witnessed in the above counties that can not be equaled in any other agricultural region on the American continent. "Those having any doubt as to the magnitude of the far famed wheat fields of Dakota," says the doctor, "ought not to lose the opportunity of making a trip through the valley of the Red."
