The Case of Augusta Usinger.

Augusta Usinger, a German girl, who has only been in America eight months, had a terrible adventure recently. She was living with a relative in New York, and had applied to an employment agency to secure a position as domestic servant.

The proprietress of the agency called upon her one day and said there was a good place for her at New Milford, Conn., and that a gentleman was waiting to take her there. Augusta was delighted at the prospect of work and she went to the agency, where she was introduced to a middle aged, bald-headed man of medium height and dark complexion, with dark, curly hair and a black mustache.

The man engaged her at once for a lady who had asked him to hire a girl. They started off together, taking the boat to Stonington and the cars to New Haven. On arriving at the latter place the man said they would walk out of town a little way and meet the girl's new mistress.

At a lonely spot, after walking some time, the man assaulted Augusta, threatening her life with a long shoemaker's knife. He then left her, warning her to say nothing or he would kill her.

The girl told her story to a railroad agent, who assisted her back to New York, where she related her adventures to the police. Miss Usinger brought the knife and a bottle of chloroform, which the ruffian intended to use if she made any outcry, back with her to New York. It was ascertained that the chloroform was purchased of a druggist on Greenwich avenue by a man who gave the name of George Adams, Black Rock, Conn.
