ROME, Sept. 28 -- (UP)
Hint that broader European problems than the Czech crisis would be considered at the Munich conference was given when authoritative sources reported that Italian volunteers are being withdrawn from the Spanish civil war.
As Mussolini left for Munich it was said reliably that he had ordered immediate withdrawal of Italian forces fighting with the Spanish Nationalist army.
It was said that the Italian evacuation already had started.
The presence of Italians on Spanish soil has been a chief obstacle to putting into effect the British-Italian friendship treaty.
WASHINGTON, Sept. 28.
The White House admitted today that President Roosevelt had sent a message to Mussolini "in the interest of world peace," describing the message as personal and declining to reveal the text.
