The boats going up and down the river bring reports every day to Ripley. The following is our latest news from that source.

The news from New York city is good. This is the only news we have from that State.

Ripley, Ohio Nov. 11th, 1844.

Dear Sir:—The skies appear to be brightening. A Steamboat down the river this morning reports 2000 majority for Polk in New York city, and as far as I have heard the prospect is good and gaining. The news from Indiana is still good, and getting better. It is said to be an acknowledged point that La. has gone for Polk, and Virginia also. News by Steamboat up yesterday evening—says 'about 20 Counties of Tennessee heard from, show a small gain for Polk compared with last Election, so much so that it is thought in Cincinnati that the State has gone for Polk. Maryland gone for Clay. Kentucky but little news, we give it to Clay. I think we may now safely conclude that JAMES K. POLK is elected.
