ST. JOHN A.M.E. CHURCH

"The Friendly Church"

Dr. R. A. Adams, pastor
Robye Maye Edmonson, reporter

Sunday school convened at 9:30 as usual. Mr. T. H. Goodwin in charge. A. Burton director of devotionals. The subject of the lesson was Uzziah: A King who Forgot God. I'm sure all profited by the time lesson. It is such a fitting question for this present dilemma. Mrs. Holt is to be complimented for her wonderful management of Senior No. 1. Two teachers were added to the staff, Davis and Smith.

Sunday morning at St. John was Quarterly meeting. Rev. Presiding Elder Williams delivered a very inspiring message. The subject of the text was "Standing on the Promises of God." This sermon was well delivered. Many visitors were at St. John Sunday. Rev. William, Mrs. Williams, children, grandchildren were all at church. Don't forget the Moonlight picnic sponsored by the Boosters at Hummel Park Sept. 7, 1939 at 8:00.

The Allen Christian Endeavor was opened at 6:30 by the president. Invocation by Mrs. Goodwin. A. Burton was director of the song services.

The subject of the lesson was: "What to do about Misleading Advertising." Many helpful points were brought out by the instructor. Mrs. Maude Roy, accompanied by Mrs. Otis Jamerson, rendered a beautiful hymn "Open Mine Eyes". Very touching indeed. We are glad to note that the attendance of the league has increased surprisingly.

Sunday evening at St. John was request program for the choir. Many helpful and soul lifting numbers were sung. See the Guide for Church News.
