We have no doubt the Michigan City democrats will continue to exercise their own will notwithstanding the begging article of the Journal. They know their rights and they do not intend to be deprived of them without letting their fellow-citizens know of their disapproval.
The opposition of Senators Walkup and Tuttle to the Senatorial election, is fully sustained by the Democracy of Michigan City, and meets the entire approbation of the Democracy of the county--aye, of the entire people of the county.
The People of Placer will not sleep upon this Senatorial question! The citizens of Michigan City have held a large and enthusiastic meeting and given expression to their feelings in regard to it. Petitions have been forwarded from Yankee Jim, Illinoistown, Rattlesnake, Oregon Bar, Gold Hill, Auburn, Michigan City, Spanish Flat, Millerton, and other places. But let us not rest here. Let the people all over the county speak out against this invasion of their rights. Citizens! one and all, it is an encroachment upon your privileges, and you should condemn it. Already are hired men traveling the State trying to make public opinion in favor of this iniquitous scheme, which is intended to disfranchise you. Then let the people show them that their labor is useless. Let the masses meet and speak out upon this question; for those who are in favor of this election would rob you of your rights. Circulate your petitions freely against the election of United States Senator this winter.
