Name Your Candidate
The proposed Independent School District for Kodiak and the surrounding area comes up for election on September 7. Interest in this matter should be at a high pitch and everyone of legal voting age should go to the polls and cast his vote in favor of the district.
To date the only action outside of the preliminary work and effort put forth by attorney John Hughes, Ellen Dawson, Max LaLande and John Gibbons has been a meeting of local businessmen to select candidates to serve on the proposed district board.
The names of the following 6 persons were suggested at the meeting: Mrs Mark Meyer, Mrs. Tenora Rockney, Gene Marlar, Leon Johnson, John Hughes, and Dr. A. Holmes Johnson.
We concede that the six persons offered by the business group is a splendid choice, but we think others should be on the list too.
Anyone interested in becoming a board member and having a hand in the administration of this new district should make himself known to Mr. LaLande, Mrs. Dawson or Mr. Gibbons and his name will be placed on the ballot.
There will also be space on the ballot for write-in candidates but past election results show that these candidates have little chance of being elected.
