CHICAGO, Oct. 30 (INS)--The Chicago Herald-American said today Joe Louis intends to keep on fighting.
Sports writer Wendell Smith said Louis told him of his desire to continue in the ring.
The former heavyweight champion now is headed for an exhibition tour of Japan.
Louis was the victim of a technical knockout at the hands of Rocky Marciano in New York last Friday.
Smith's story said Louis is not yet convinced that he should retire and added:
"He says he will announce his intentions upon his return from Japan. That is merely a stall on the part of the ex-champion. He has definite fighting plans for the future."
"Louis thinks he still has enough left to win the heavyweight championship."
Meanwhile, Louis' possible compromise settlement with the federal government over income tax indebtedness appeared to be delayed indefinitely because of his reluctance to quit boxing.
Chicago area Internal Revenue collector John T. Jarecki said a compromise is possible if Louis retires and proves inability to pay the back tax in full. Jarecki declined to disclose the amount Louis owes for 1947 and 1948 but reports say it totals nearly $100,000.
