LUCKY STOP
M. J. Slattery's Speedy Trotter Runs a Mile--One Rein Broken

There was considerable speeding done on Reservoir avenue yesterday, despite the muddy condition of that thoroughfare.

Among the fast equines was Black Regent, a magnificent trotter owned by Mr. M. J. Slattery.

While Mr. Slattery was turning to get a brush with another fast stepper the right rein snapped near the bit, causing the animal to run away.

When near Pierce street Mr. Slattery jumped out, escaping injury. The runaway continued on to Fenner street, then on to Cathedral square, where it was caught. The only damage done was in the breaking of the rein.
