A MOST DEPLORABLE TRAGEDY

Death, even when due to natural causes, is sad to contemplate, and the tragedy in which Dr. H. F. Broyles and Mr. E. F. Hendrix lost their lives near Greenwood Springs last Tuesday is deplorable not only on account of its atrocious nature but because one of the principals in the fatal encounter was a man of great intellect and one whose death is a loss not only to his family but to the entire State.

Regarding the history of Mr. Hendrix little is known, but Dr. Broyles was one of Mississippi's brainiest and most patriotic citizens. He was a man of protean talents and achievements, and had attained prominence as a physician, a statesman and a business man. He had represented Monroe county both in the legislature and the State senate, having been a member of the latter body at the time he met his lamentable end, and had taken high rank among his colleagues.

Mississippi, indeed, had few such gifted men as Dr. Broyles, and his death is a distinct public loss.
