Full Text
The argument of Senator Blackburn in favor of the enactment of a new printing law is so logical and conclusive that even the enemies of the measure must confess to its sufficiency. The Legislature must meet the ostracism of the democracy upon its own ground. If merchants or other citizens are to be driven by terror and reproach to the support of papers that they condemn as enemies to justice, truth and the people, then the occasion has arisen to justify an exceptional measure in order to meet this weakness of the public. There is no use in evading the matter because it is unpleasant but it should be met at once as a duty.—State Register.
