PLEADS GUILTY
TO CONSPIRACY
Volney Davis, Suspect in Weyerhaeuser Case Before Court
ST. PAUL, Minn., June 4.—Glad to "get it off his chest," Volney Davis, known to the Department of Justice agents as the toughest member of the Barker-Karpis gang, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to kidnaping Edward G. Bremer yesterday.
"It is no use trying to beat these G-boys," said Davis after pleading before Federal Judge M. M. Joyce.
He will be sentenced Friday with life imprisonment as the possible penalty.
Davis was brought here by plane after being captured in Chicago following a gun fight. His arrest precludes any possibility of being mixed up in the Weyerhaeuser kidnaping as it is deemed a physical impossibility. He was arrested in Chicago Saturday.
BETRAYED BY SWEETHEART
ST. PAUL, June 4. — Mobster Davis said he was betrayed by his sweetheart, Edna Murray, called the "kissing bandit."
Davis said he made arrangements to meet his sweetheart in a Chicago suburb and the authorities were notified of the proposed meeting.
The gangster, in entering his guilty plea, said: "The minute they read the indictment I could see they knew as much about this Bremer kidnaping as I did. It is no use trying to beat these G-boys."
