The Son of a Clergyman Expires in Chicago Hospital
CHICAGO, Aug. 26.-David Lindskog, son of Rev. Herman Lindskog, rector of St. Ansgarius Swedish Episcopal Church, was shot in the left breast last night by James P. Wiley, a policeman of the Chicago Avenue station. He died today at the Policlinic Hospital.
Wiley fired at young Landskog while defending himself against an attack by a band of young men who had been in the habit of congregating at Sedgwick and Oak Streets and making trouble. He will be held at the police station pending the verdict of the coroner's jury.
The shooting took place at Sedgwick and Oak streets about midnight. The policeman was attacked before he resorted to the use of his revolver. It is said that Lindskog was attempting to draw a weapon from his own pocket, when the fatal shot was fired. Wiley received several bruises and cuts about the face and head from the severe pounding which the crowd administered, and, after he had made his report to the station, it was necessary for him to go to the Polyclinic Hospital and have his wounds attended. After the shooting, the members of the gang dispersed and made their escape by running through the alleys and side streets in the neighborhood. The only other member who was found was John Gallagher, one of the men who, it is charged, assaulted Wiley. Gallagher has a bad record at the police station, having been arrested a number of times. Young Landskog lived with his father at home.
