ENGLAND.

Gloucester. Aug. 3. Our letters from all parts of the country are full of the dismal effects of the storms that fell last week. At Arle near Cheltenham, a barn, the largest in this county, was set on fire on Friday morning by a flash of lightning, and burnt to the Ground, and two waggons loaded with hay lodged therein consumed. Several stables and outhouses were also consumed. In many parts of Herefordshire, and Monmouthshire, vast quantities of hay have been carried away by the sudden inundations. The torrents from the mountains in Glamorganshire have done incredible damage in the county, several cottages have been swept away with the inhabitants. A poor woman was taken up drowned near Neath, with a child locked in her arms.

We hear from Caermarthenshire, by the last post, that five days continued rain had fallen there, which had occasioned such an inundation that all the hay in those fine vales on the banks of the Towey was entirely washed away, to the ruin of many industrious farmers. The corn too in the lowlands, had suffered greatly, the flood having laid it flat, and left such a slime upon it that it is quite spoiled. The waters were so high that the roads were impassable for several days.
