BOSTON, JUNE 4.

The abuse of the elective franchise, which have lately been practiced in this state by the Democrats, call loudly for the prompt and spirited interference of the Legislature, and we are happy to learn, that, aided by the timely remonstrance of the orderly part of the inhabitants of several towns, a considerable number of the newly patented Republicans of the House, will be suffered to go home, unfatigued with the labour of legislating for their fellow-citizens.

The question on the Natick member, has been determined by the Legislature. The particulars of his election, we believe, stood thus: A notification for a meeting was issued to choose a Representative, and to transact other town business. When the citizens assembled, the meeting for the choice was opened; in which the electmen presided. A question was then taken. Shall the town send a Representative? which passed in the negative almost unanimously—the meeting was then virtually dissolved; a Moderator was chosen, and the citizens proceeded on their other town business.— When this was completed, and all the citizens but about ten were dispersed, they put in ten votes for one of the electmen; and the rest gave him a certificate of his choice as Representative.

After this scandalous transaction, the person had the impudence and ignorance to attend as a member; and it is believed voted in the case of the speaker, clerk, and filling the vacancies in the senate. He is a violent democrat—and the whole transaction is in compliance with one of the directions issued by the pamphlet caucus.

The people of Natick have remonstrated against the trick; and the abortion has been excluded the House.

It is by such means as these that the demons of democracy intend to revolutionize the councils of Massachusetts. If good citizens do not feel a holy indignation at these vile attempts, and swear to arouse and repel them; they will deserve to be partakers in the shame and disgrace which will ensue.
