BUZZARD'S BAY, Mass., Sept. 8.—Ex-President Grover Cleveland's eldest daughter, Ruth, had a narrow escape from serious injury today, and but for the coolness of Fred C. Small, the Assistant Postmaster here, a serious accident would have occurred. She came for the morning mail in a dogcart. With her was Mrs. Pierrin, Mrs. Cleveland's mother. While waiting for the mail the pony became nervous at the sight of an electric car, and a lady carrying a red sunshade. As soon as the pony caught sight of that he began to rear up. He jumped so that he finally fell, but the cart did not tip over. Small grabbed him and the pony got on his feet. He started to run but was held. Then he sprang forward, striking against the other team with such force that he fell down again. This time the wagon tipped over and Mrs. Pierrin and Ruth slid out, uninjured.
