Loot At Store
Night prowlers working with knotted ropes and gaining entrance into buildings through skylights early Monday morning, entered the men's clothing store of Mack and Maek on Main street between Fifth and Sixth streets and escaped with a large quantity of merchandise. A knotted rope and a size 17 shirt was found in the building used by the prowlers. The shirt had been pulled off and exchanged for a new one in the store. Both city and county officers are working on the job.
Merchandise stolen included two trunk suitcases, two sheepskin leather collar coats, 20 silk bath robes, 50 pairs of fancy silk hose, 50 caps, two white sweaters, two white sweaters with green burgundy borders, one dozen leather gloves, 15 shirts, and other items.
Taking two suitcases and two leather coats, officers said, indicates two men were on the job.
It is believed that the same men are the ones who tried to gain entrance into the Johnson-Groene store through the skylight. The glass was taken from the skylight but the attempt was futile because of iron bars over the skylight. The attempt was abandoned without further ado, officers said.
The sheriff's department notified officers in Los Angeles, San Diego, Yuma, Phoenix, Tucson, Nogales and all border towns of the burglary.
