SECRETARIES ORGANIZE A LABOR UNION
Washington, Feb. 10—Secretaries to congressmen organized a labor union for self protection. They do not contemplate a strike for higher salaries, but they do propose to unite in bringing pressure, that they may obtain all of the salary appropriated by congress for them.
Under the law, congressmen draw $7,500 a year for clerk hire. This money is paid them upon a certificate that the real assistance has been employed.
In numerous instances, the congressmen draw all they are allowed and then pay a clerk $50 or $75 a month. Frequently they keep all the money in the family by employing a wife or child as clerk.
