BADLY HURT
Master Gerald McVicker Fell From
Second Story of Building to Base-
ment and Sustains Serious
Injury.
FRACTURE AT BASE OF
SKULL IS FEARED
Gerald McVicker, the eleven year
old son of Mr. and Mrs. John McVick-
or, of Pine street, Second ward, was
the victim of an accident Sunday
evening, the outcome of which is some-
what uncertain at this time.
Gerald together with a number of
companions, was playing about the
new dwelling house owned by Miss Ida
Ingman, which is in the course of con-
struction on Monroe street, when he
fell from the second story of the build-
ing to the basement, striking on the
foundation for a chimney wall.
Mr. O. J. Fleming, whose residence
adjoins the building, hurried to the
child and carried him to his residence,
where he was cared for until the arri-
val of the physician, Dr. H. H. Carr,
when he was taken to Cook Hospital.
When picked up the boy was uncon-
scious.
The child was badly bruised and it
is thought that there is probably a
fracture at the base of the skull
though this has not been fully deter-
mined at this time. He is resting com-
fortably today.
The father of the child is a conduc-
tor in the employ of the Baltimore and
Ohio Railroad Company. The accident
occurred about five o'clock last even-
ing. Gerald is a pupil in the third
grade of the second ward school.
