Paris, March 7.—General Brier de Lisle telegraphs from Tuyen Quang that March 8 he occupied that town and relieved the French garrison which had been besieged there. The Chinese fought desperately for eighteen days and made seven assaults upon the town, but, being warned of the approach of the French reinforcements, raised the siege during the night of March 2 and hastily departed. Advisers from Langson state that General Negrier is rapidly making his way northward, and has blown up several forts on the Chinese frontier, among them the Gate of China, one of the strongest fortifications on the boundary line.
