Full Text
Almost every man in the city who owns a fish line or a gun and a gaunt looking dog has been out in the mountains or else is preparing to do so, and tales are told that would cause Joe Mulhatton and Tom Ochiltree to take to the woods. Billy Eastman and Sim Jacobs with their five-pound trout were the heroes for a while, but since Judge DeWitt's visit of last week and his story of an eight-pounder that he hooked somewhere up near the Canadian line, they have lowered their colors and now talk only in a whisper. The judge's tale has caused all the local fishermen to grow green with envy and jealousy, and they propose that Helena shall not long retain the honor of claiming as a citizen the man who caught the largest trout of the season. A number of the boys are preparing for an excursion to a point where they say eight-pound trout are used as bait for those which they intend to bring back.
