HOUSE OF DELEGATES.

Thursday, Feb. 26.

The Senate have passed the bills, 1. to amend the several acts concerning the literary fund; 2, authorizing the sale of the slaves belonging to the estate of Solomon Jacobs, dec'd: 3. Incorporating a company to construct a turnpike from Winchester to Smithfield: 4, to improve the navigation of Opequon creek in the county of Berkeley. 5, authorizing the payment of the arrearages of the school quotas due the county of Kanawha; 6. concerning the James river company: 7, concerning the trustees of Slate river.

They have rejected the bill empowering Samuel Griffin to convey certain lands.

Bills passed—1, appropriating the public revenue.

Mr. Doddridge moved a resolution to bring in a bill for increasing the salary of the auditor of Public accounts: which was supported by Mr. Miller of Powhatan, and Mr. Dive, and passed, ayes 66, noes 52.

On motion of Mr. Dupuy, the Board of Public Works were requested to direct the Public Engineer to survey the Appomattox with a view to an improvement of the same from Petersburg to tide-water, from Farmville to Petersburg with the same view, and the country between Farmville and the nearest point of Staunton via along Buffaloe's river and the Little Roanoke, with a view to connecting the waters of the Appomattox and Roanoke—and to report his opinions thereon.
