TO BOOST TEACHERS' SALARIES.

School Board Committee Recommends Several Increases.

Because of the increased cost of living and because larger salaries are paid in smaller schools, elsewhere, substantial increases in the salaries of department heads will be recommended to the board of education for incorporation in the estimates by the committee on teachers and schools. A delegation of department heads from the Central High school appeared before the committee Monday evening to urge the increase on behalf of all those occupying like positions in the city schools. The committee will recommend that the maximum salary paid these employes be increased from $1,800 to $2,500. It was recommended that the salary of Principal MacKenzie, of the Central High, be increased from $3,500 to $4,000, and that of J. I. Trybom, supervisor of manual training, from $2,500 to $3,000. It was also recommended to increase the minimum for primary teachers from $45 to $50 per month. The employment of Miss Maud Hartshorn as physical director in the Eastern High school, her engagement to start from next September, was recommended. She is now in the University of Michigan in a similar capacity.
