Full Text

About six o'clock in the evening last Sunday, a portion of the wall of the old Court House, in the rear of Dr. Leslie's Infirmary fell down with considerable crash. This is attributed to the digging down of the alley, in the middle of the square, to alter the grade. We should think the owner of the property, in such a case could hold the corporation liable for damage, but understand that it cannot be done, the Supreme Court having decided to the contrary.

This is very wrong, and will, most assuredly, retard the growth of our city. circumstances alter cases: and were we the owner of that building, we would satisfy ourselves about the legality of the law: if such a law, as we are told, has been passed.
