FATHER VALENTIN
HAS RICH VESTMENTS

Father Valentin of the Roman Catholic Mission has a fine new set of vestments which are on view in St. Augustine's chapel at Waikiki, vestments which are wrought with infinite needlework detail. They were made in Germany and are exquisite in workmanship and cut and style. The stitches are the finest and expert needleworkers here who have examined the vestments declare they are the finest of their kind.

But Father Valentin was not originally intended as the wearer of these vestments. They were sent to another priest who declared he did not want to pay the custom duties. He offered them to Father Valentin who paid the freight, which was small, and then to his astonishment, he found that the duty was extremely small. He paid both bills and is now the owner of a set of the finest vestments in the Islands. One similar set of vestments was made by a German woman who was twenty-five years in completing them.
