Several Schools Report 100 Pct. SEA Enrollment

Mingo county teachers, with only two weeks of the current school term gone, are well on their way toward 100 percent enrollment in the State Education Association, it was reported Saturday.

The teachers voted at a county-wide institute last February to accept the unified dues plan in regard to their professional organizations. In addition to SEA, they are eligible to join the National Education Association and state-wide affiliates, which may be classroom teachers, elementary principals, secondary principals, or county superintendents organizations.

Several schools in the county are over the top with 100 percent enrollment. Matewan grades, with 12 teachers, is the largest school to gain the distinction, having accomplished this on the opening day of school. Kermit High is the only secondary school in the county to complete its enrollment.

One local school, the West Williamson grade, boasts 100 percent as do the graded schools at Thacker, Glen Alum, Dingess and North Matewan. Gates, Caney, Goodman, Maher and Vulcan are among the two-room schools completing enrollment.

Teachers who have not yet joined the SEA under the unified dues plan may obtain blanks at the offices of the board of education, or from Marvin Varney at Williamson high school and Mrs. Marian Montgomery at Magnolia high school.
