The Noxubee Rifle.—J. W. Ward, editor of the Noxubee (Miss.) Rifle, is no longer connected with that paper, which has now abandoned its position as a neutral journal, and displays the flag of Taylor and Fillmore. We regret to lose Mr. Ward as a member of the editorial corps, for we have so often been amused by his spicy articles that we are sure we shall miss him. Under his auspices the Rifle was one of the most readable country papers in the Southwest, and we are sorry that he has not filled his purse to the extent that he entertained his readers. In his valedictory he says:

This is the second time that we have failed in newspaper enterprizes. For although just budding into maturity, misfortune has thus far dogged our footsteps through life, and we have passed through an age of adversity. We have been battling with the world since boyhood, and although the struggle has been hard, we have never surrendered. We belong to the recuperative order, and the harder we fall, the higher do we rebound. When we commenced the publication of the Rifle, we proudly anticipated a battalion of subscribers, but the sergeant's roll shows only a corporal's guard. We are too poor to do a losing business, and we were working here without hope.
