This is the second time that we have failed in newspaper enterprizes. For although just budding into maturity, misfortune has thus far dogged our footsteps through life, and we have passed through an age of adversity. We have been battling with the world since boyhood, and although the struggle has been hard, we have never surrendered. We belong to the recuperative order, and the harder we fall, the higher do we rebound. When we commenced the publication of the Rifle, we proudly anticipated a battalion of subscribers, but the sergeant's roll shows only a corporal's guard. We are too poor to do a losing business, and we were working here without hope.
