More "Democrat eating Democrat."

At the Court of Common Pleas, held in the county of York a few days since, the jury gave a verdict of 600 dollars damages in a suit brought by Joseph Bartlett, Esq. against Nathaniel Willis, jun. Editor of the Eastern Argus, for a libel. These two good democrats, who cheek by jowl, commenced the patriotic work of revolutionizing the district of Maine, are now pursuing the "unprofitable contest, of trying which can do the other most harm."

With the award of the jury, we understand neither party is satisfied, the action is appealed for another trial at the Superior Court.

A friend has communicated a short sketch of this "important" trial—The writ, which is said to have been from fifteen to twenty feet in length, contained a number of charges against Mr. B. the plaintiff; which were alleged to be false, scandalous, and malicious, and published in the Eastern Argus, and proved to be so. At the trial, two or three charges were not attempted to be proved. An attempt was made to prove Mr. B. a swindler, and about ten or twelve instances were shortly stated, but not above verified by evidence. The Plaintiff was charged with having sent a challenge to the Rev. Mr. Holmes, of Cambridge. This charge Mr. Holmes himself, contradicted in his deposition, produced in Court. But we do not wish to occupy much of our paper with the quarrels of others, and more especially as this action will have another trial, and we consider it unfair to prejudice the public mind in any cause which is to have an impartial decision by the legal tribunal of the country. But should the Editor of the Argus be found guilty of publishing a false, scandalous and malicious libel against his brother democrat? Quere?—Will there be as many tender "sympathies" excited in his favor, as were called forth for the democratic printer Osborn, when convicted of having published a false, scandalous and malicious libel against Judge Deblois.

Look out for more smut next Thursday morning.
