Full Text

October 6. The following Declaration, signed by Lord Holdernesse, it's said, has been sent to all the Foreign Ministers residing at this Court. "The King having caused an Account to be laid before him of the Representations of Mr. Mitchell, on Account of certain Overtures made by his Majesty's Electorate Ministers concerning the bad Successes in Germany, Orders, that the King of Prussia's Minister should be told in Answer, that it was never his Majesty's Intention that the said Overtures, made without the Participation of the British Council, should have the least Influence over his Majesty's Conduct as King. He looks with the same Eye as heretofore upon the pernicious Effects of the Union between the Courts of Vienna and Versailles, which threaten to overturn the whole System of public Liberty, and the Independency of all the Powers of Europe; and considers it as a fatal Consequence of their dangerous Connection, that the Court of Vienna has already delivered the Ports of the Low Countries into the Hands of France, contrary to the Faith of the most solemn Treaties, at so critical a Juncture. Whatever may have been the Success of Arms, his Majesty is determined to persist, in Concert with the King of Prussia, in the most efficacious Means to frustrate the unjust and oppressive Designs of their common Enemies; and the King of Prussia may assure himself, that the British Crown will continue strictly to fulfil his Engagements with his Prussian Majesty, and support him with Resolution and Vigour. Done at Whitehall, Sept. 16."
