Allen Overton Harper
"Al," as he is known to everyone here, started life on a New Year's day at Batesville, Arkansas. He moved to Pulaski County, not far out of Little Rock, at an early age, and attended a rural school for eight years, after which he started to work doing odd chores until he secured a lumbering job in 1897. He subsequently worked as a salesman and as a lumber foreman but began work for Republic in September, 1916. His services were needed as a carpenter on the Camp Pike construction job in July, 1917, so he left our employ.
On August 4, 1919, "Al" returned to us as Exploration Drill Foreman, which position he has held ever since. He is very active in the Baptist Church but aside from his duties there and at work he finds time occasionally to gratify his hobbies of fishing, hunting and baseball. If you really want to see him smile just start talking about his new grandchild. His big regret is that Grandpa is so far away from Columbia, South America, where his daughter and grandchild live while his son-in-law is serving in the U. S. Consular service.
