Several thefts in and about El Centro, including the disappearance of two Ford touring cars, were reported to the El Centro police yesterday.
A car, the property of David Singh of Holtville, was reported stolen from its parking place on Broadway. The owner was unable to furnish the police with the license number of the car, describing it as a 1926 model with no license plate in the rear.
The other machine was stolen in Mexicali. Jose Berneis, the owner, has offered a reward of $50 for its recovery. The license number of this machine is 37-130.
Among the other thefts reported was that of a spare tire, rim and tire cover from a car parked in front of the Casa Rey hotel. A. B. French of the International Harvester Company, is the owner. A red leather coat was reported stolen from a car parked near the corner of Commercial Street on Fourth Street. W. A. Gilmer, owner, reported the matter to the police.
Report of the thefts led Chief Oswalt this morning to issue a warning to automobile owners against leaving any property in their cars while the latter are unoccupied. "Autoists should make certain to lock their cars and take their keys with them so the car cannot be stolen,'' the chief said. "and should also remove any property they may have in the cars, if the latter are to be left unguarded."
