Full Text

The Rye Patch Homicide - The preliminary examination of William Little, charged with the murder of George Liddicoat at Rye Patch, on the 1st instant, was held at Unionville on last Monday. The testimony disclosed the fact that a few moments prior to the shooting of Liddicoat, that Little, while peaceably standing in front of the bar at the Brewery Saloon in company with a few friends, received a stunning blow with a beer glass on the back of the head, from some person who had cautiously crept up behind him, and who, upon delivering the blow, immediately fled through the open door of the saloon, and escaped under cover of the darkness, and that Little, upon recovering from the effect of the blow, which caused the blood to flow freely, drew his revolver and following his supposed assailant, fired four shots, the last one of which killed Liddicoat. It was further shown that Little and Liddicoat were friends, and had been, up to the time the fatal shot was fired, on the most intimate terms with each other. Little was held to bail in the sum of $2,000 to await the action of the Grand Jury, and in default of satisfactory security for the amount is now confined in the county jail. - Humboldt Register.
