CHRISTMAS SEAL SALE AND ROLL CALL FOR 1935

The American Red Cross and the National Tuberculosis Association have again agreed upon the specific periods during which their campaigns may be carried on. The Red Cross Branches conduct the Roll Call from October 15th to Nov. 28th or Thanksgiving Day. The Christmas Seal Campaign starts on November 29th and runs to Christmas Day. Officials of both organizations are especially anxious that there should be no confusion in regard to the dates of these two separate campaigns. The term "Red Cross Seal" has come into use from the time of the World War and before, when for ten years the Red Cross gave the undertaking in this health work, which was carried on under the National Tuberculosis Association, its moral and financial backing, its emblem and its name. The value of such sponsorship at a time when the tuberculosis movement was struggling for existence, would be difficult to estimate. The partnership between the American Red Cross and the National Tuberculosis Association lasted until 1920. In that year the American Red Cross wished to concentrate its efforts on the annual Roll Call. Because it did not wish to appeal to the public for funds twice a year, a new arrangement was made whereby the National Tuberculosis Association conducted the sale alone and used as the sole emblem on the seals the double-barred cross. Since 1920 the seals have been Tuberculosis Christmas Seals. There is no longer in the United States any Red Cross seal. The Red Cross organization now uses a Red Cross button which signifies membership in that organization, and the Tuberculosis organizations sell the seals which is the only source of income for their work.

If one can entertain himself he has solved one of the hardest problems of life. More people have the gift of speech than the gift of silence.
