NEARLY LOSES EYESIGHT

Mandan, N. D., May 25.—John Ferderer, eleven-year-old son of Paul Ferderer of this city, was very badly burned about the face and head when he struck a match to a little pile of powder on the sidewalk in front of the Mandan Drug Co. The boy and some of his playmates had found several shotgun shells and had torn them to pieces, extracting the powder and making a pile of it on the walk. John then stooped over it and held the match to it and upon the powder failing to ignite he bent closer to see what was wrong. Suddenly the pile flared up into his face and burned him horribly, especially about the eyes. Aid at once came and he was taken to a physician who dressed the wounds and took steps to save the eyes from injury. The success of the attention was in doubt until Tuesday when it was announced that the boy will retain perfect sight, though it is very probable he will carry several quite bad scars.
