Full Text

I began to be heartily ashamed of having suffered myself to be so long made a fool of by the daily slang of the newspapers, for an ambitious faction. My confidence increased afterwards still more, when the political character of John Adams himself was so ably vindicated by the Boston Patriot, and those very newspapers who formerly had so boldly belied him, acknowledged that the venerable Statesman had been wronged.

From that time till now, I have never again suffered myself to be taken in by the Newspaper-slang-wag of the day. Whenever I observe that some political topic or other is warmly and unanimously agitated in party Newspapers, I am sure that some good man is doomed to fall, or an honest name is about to be destroyed, to make way for a new star, that is to rise on the political horizon.
