The Daily Herald has made its appearance at Pocahontas. We hope it will live.
Is the esteemed State Republican still of the opinion that Gov. Davis is afraid to meet Harry Myers on the stump?
What will the next legislature do? asks an exchange. Such a foolish question! Which way will the wind blow next Saturday three weeks.
In the course of his address at Brinkley Gov. Davis asked 'what is modern republicanism?' and a man in the audience shouted "pie." That man is a sage.
Jeff Davis is daily wiping up the earth with Harry Myers, and Harry is daily claiming that Jeff is afraid of him. There certainly is a scum over Harry's eyes.
Charlie Greaves is not allowed to address the people along with Davis and Myers, but he is pouring hot shot into Marse Powell and his lieutenants all by himself,
The Batesville Guard, one of best weeklies in Arkansas, announces that it will shortly put in a fast press and folder, to better meet the requirements of its business.
Gov. Davis has granted two more pardons in contempt cases, notwithstanding the opinion of Attorney General Murphy that the governor has no power to pardon in such cases.
The Newark Journal says Mr. Cleveland will never be "it" any more. The Journal's "sarkasticle" remark is out of place. Mr. Cleveland is making no effort to be "it" any more.
Personalities predominate in the state campaign. It occurs to us that a discussion of the differences between the democratic and republican parties on live issues would be more proper.
It's really a dirty shame that Editor Hodges of the Spring Creek News can't get his feet under the pie counter. To witness his struggle for a seat at the festal board is most enough to drive his friends into heart disease.
Mr. Bryan is to have a mantel in his home constructed from marble from the different states he carried in the presidential election. No material from the democratic states that the republicans wiped up will be accepted.
Gov. Davis in his speeches over the state continues to score the Little Rock daily papers, and complains that he can't locate the Gazette. He has never had any trouble in determining the attitude of the Democrat, therefore he respects it most.
Senator Berry gives it out straight that it is not time for him to announce his candidacy for reelection until his present term expires, and that if he wants to run he will not be bluffed by the announcement of any others who may have an eye turned towards the national capitol.
Senator Jones' vote on the canal question is a monstrous thing to a lot of papers. Nine-tenths of these papers closed their bazoos when another prominent democrat signed a contract involving a vast sum of the people's money, and has never yet given a sensible reason for so doing. Their bull was gored then.
