Police Chief Timothy Kelleher yesterday stated that the State-wide Safety drive, initiated at the request of the Governor this week, will have the complete co-operation of his department.
Chief Kelleher said that although things were running along smoothly in town, he will continue to bring to the attention of the public the need of strict obedience to traffic laws.
He pointed out that his men have been directed to halt all vehicles proceeding in the hours of darkness with undimmed lights. Drivers of such cars. Kelleher said will be accosted, ordered to obey regulations or face arrest.
Each motorist will be warned twice, the third time he faces arrest. Kelleher revealed Names of violators of dimout regulations will be turned over to Francis Hoffman, chairman of the East Hartford Civilian Defense Council.
Ordinances Being Observed
Chief Kelleher revealed that aside from several apprehensions of dimout violators. local traffic regulations are being obeyed. He said that parking and bicycle ordinances were being observed by the public and a special detail assigned to patrol the highway next to the aircraft plants, have brought results.
No Speeders
In contrast to the number of complaints about speeders near the Aircraft plant brought to Kelleher's attention last month, everything has been quiet on this front for the past few weeks, since the chief warned that stiff penalties await persons caught speeding.
