The Oceanus and Jacob Duryea,

To the Editor of The N. Y. Tribune.

SIR: In your issue of to-day, on "Collision of Oceanus and Jacob Duryea," the blame would appear to attach to Capt. Davis, in not showing a light in time, &c. Will you please do Capt. Davis the justice to state that his "signal-lights" were burning brightly, and had been all night, properly set in the rigging, and that he did all he possibly could do. It is hard to be blamed when he used every possible precaution.

His lights were seen by persons on board the steamer quite a length of time before the collision. Yours respectfully,

NATHANIEL M. TERRY, No. 106 South-St.

New-York, Sept. 25, 1865.
