The Richmond Compiler mentions, that Mendum, who was under the sentence of death for the murder of Mosby, and was to have been executed in a few days, committed suicide in prison, in Chesterfield co. Another prisoner, Whiteford, who was to be hanged with him, and was confined in the same room made an attempt at the same time on his own life, and it was very doubtful whether he would recover from the deep wounds he made with a razor on his throat. A fellow prisoner who attempted to prevent these shocking deeds was resisted and threatened by the wretched men.
