We hear from Amsterdam, that tho' most of the Politicians of this Place write to their Friends there, that Affairs in general are upon a good Footing, and that there is nothing to fear during the Life of Cardinal de Fleury, who is for an universal Peace; yet there has been an unaccountable Sort of Alarm upon the Exchange; owing partly to an Apprehension from the French Troops swarming on the Frontiers of Flanders; which they imagine is with some View that may be pernicious to the Interests of this Republick. This bare Apprehension, whether groundless or not, has however sunk the Publick Stocks, and in the present Situation, 'tis not to be expected they can rise very high.
