THE SEASON.

The farmers and others are likely to be happily disappointed in their early prognostications about the season. A backward spring, cold Summer, and short crops, was the general cry. and people almost began to count on something like famine. But, in due time, the reign of Summer set these calculations at defiance, silenced all the predictions of evil, and has presented us with as bright and glorious a prospect of a fruitful season, as has ever smiled on the domain of the husbandman.

From every part of the country we have the most cheering accounts. The wheat fields of the west and south, are clothed with a most luxuriant growth, fast ripening for the harvest. In our northern clime, grass is abundant, corn comes forward with unusual rapidity, all descriptions of vegetables are in advance of former years, and in great perfection; and every species of fruit common to our climate, gives promise of rich profusion. The country now appears most beautiful. Nature is clothed in her gayest and richest attire. The farmer rejoices in prospect of a rich reward for his labors, and, while a bountiful providence smiles on his efforts, all have reason to be thankful for the promise of plenty
