Democratic District Convention.

The Democratic Executive Committee for this Congressional District, convened in Clarksburg on Thursday last, pursuant to previous notice, for the purpose of determining upon the time and place for holding the next Democratic District Convention to nominate a Candidate for Congress. We had expected to have received the proceedings thereof, in time for publication in this paper, but we have been disappointed therein. The following, as we are informed, was the result of the action had:

The Committee was called to order by the Chairman, A. N. Williams, of Wood, and L. A. Phelps chosen to act as Secretary. The following counties were represented: Barbour, Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, Harrison, Kanawha, Lewis Ritchie, Roane, Wirt and Wood; comprising about two-thirds of the Democratic votes of the District. After several ineffectual ballots, Parkersburg was at length selected as the place for holding the Convention, and Friday, the 4th day of March, 1859 as the time. The Committee then adjourned, sine die.

Since writing the above, we have received the official proceedings, which are as follows:

Pursuant to previous notice, the above Committee met at Clarksburg, on Thursday, the 26th inst., for the purpose of fixing a time and place of holding the next Congressional Convention, for the 11th Congressional District.

The meeting was called to order by its chairman, A. N. Williams, Esq., and on motion of G. W. Smith, Esq., L. A. Phelps, of Ritchie, was appointed Secretary.

On motion of A. G. Reger, Esq., Thompson Surghnor, of Barbour, was appointed assistant secretary.

The roll being called, the following members of said Committee were found present:

A. N. Williams, of Wood; A. G. Reger, of Barbour; G. W. Smith, of Harrison; L. A. Phelps, of Ritchie; Peter Sourburn, of Calhoun; C. J. Stewart, of Doddridge; Jas. Bennett, of Lewis; Geo. W. Duval, of Roane; Which said delegates represent a majority of the Democratic votes cast in the last Presidential election.

On motion of A. G. Reger, Esq., it was resolved,

That any county in this District, whose representatives were not present, should be represented by any Democrat present, from said counties.

Whereupon, P. Cox, Geo. H. Beall Geo. E. Ball, Wm. E. Lively, and S. M. Radcliff, of Gilmer, appeared and were received by said committee, as representatives.

Robert Blain, of Kanawha; A. M. Bastable, of Upshur; J. C. Rathbone, of Wirt, were also received.

On motion the Committee then proceeded to ballot for a place of holding said Convention, and the names of Glenville, Parkersburg, Weston, and Ritchie C. H. were suggested as suitable places.

After several ballotings, the contest came between Parkersburg and Glenville, and the vote stood as follows:

On motion of G. W. Duvall the meeting then proceeded to appoint a time for holding said Convention—whereupon it was resolved unanimously,

That the 4th day of March, 1859, be the time of holding said Convention.

On motion, it was resolved that the Democratic papers of this district be requested to publish the proceedings of this Convention.
