A Magnificent Event in Prospect

A Grand State Barbecue to be Held in our City.

Gov. Coke and the six Congressional Candidates to be Present.

Pursuant to the call heretofore published, a number of the citizens of Dallas and the surrounding country met in the courthouse yesterday afternoon. On motion of Jno. W. Lane, Nat. M. Burford was elected chairman, and E. C. McLure, secretary. The chairman explained the object to be to make all necessary arrangements for giving a grand old fashioned barbecue some time during the present month, to which all the people of Texas should be invited, and on which occasion the six democratic nominees for congress should be invited to address the gathered multitudes.

Major John Henry Brown offered the following resolution, which was adopted unanimously:

Resolved, That the president of this meeting is hereby authorized to appoint an executive or business committee of twenty-five from all parts of Dallas county, clothed with authority to appoint all committees and take all the necessary steps to prepare for a grand old-fashioned barbecue at Dallas, on Friday, the 30th day of October, present month, to which are to be invited the six democratic candidates for congress in this state, also, Governor Coke and other state officers, and all others deemed proper by the appropriate committee of invitation when appointed.

Whereupon, the president, upon suggestions from the audience, appointed the following gentlemen as the committee of twenty-five, to-wit:

Gen. W. L. Cabell, John Howell, Marion Moon, June Peak, Col. John C. McCoy, Rob't S. Guy, Alex. Rawlings, Thos. L. Frank, A. C. Haught, Jo Y. Field, Wm. H. Lemman, D. Stults, Rob't Grounds, Fant Ball, Col. W. Wilson, Col. Nat. M. Burford, Jas. Craven, Daniel Daily, John T. Corcoran, C. C. Jennings, James Horton, Geo. N. Aldredge, S. J. Adams, W. C. Holland, John Henry Brown.

On motion, the time for the barbecue was fixed at Friday, the 30th of the present month.

General Cabell, chairman of the executive committee, gave notice that the committee would meet on Tuesday next, the 6th instant, at 11 o'clock A. M., in the city hall.

On motion, the papers of the city were requested to publish the proceedings of the meeting.
