Editorial Remarks. We cheerfully insert the above resolution of the Anson Q. M.—and would take this opportunity to remark, that the conductors of the Star do not consider themselves infallible. Our brethren of the Anson Q. M. and of all other Q. M's. have a right, and that right they may exercise, to controvert, through the Star, any opinion which may be advocated by its conductors, provided they do it with a kind spirit. We believe in free, open, manly discussion of all subjects which relate to the advancement of the kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, or the present and eternal welfare of all our brethren of the family of Adam. We want light, and all the light which can be obtained on every subject, that we may act to the glory of God; and this may be elicited by a free, unrestricted, candid interchange of views.
If our brethren had pointed out the particular articles to which they refer, we should have understood them better than we now do. We presume they do not consider it wrong for a minister to be educated; we doubt not they are the friends of education; but they do not think it right for a person to be educated for the ministry whom God has not called, nor for one whom God has called to wait till he has acquired an education before he enters upon the sacred work, or to leave that work, if he has already entered upon it, for this purpose. This is the opinion of at least a part of the conductors of the Star. But at the same time they believe it to be obligatory upon every minister of Jesus Christ, to use all the means within his reach, without leaving the work, to prepare himself the more effectually to perform the vast and important duties incumbent upon him—to study to show himself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Tim. 2:15. Are we not of "one mind" in this respect, brethren?
