GOOD WORK DONE BY GOOD MEN!
Horse Thieves Caught and Stock Recovered!

On the 23d of last month, some stock was missing from the upper Salt river valley, and simultaneously, George Moore, a resident of that section, and Tom Logan a quondam schoolmaster, ceased to turn up at their accustomed haunts. The past history of the men made the conclusion irresistible that they and the stock were together, and so Capt. Moody, Wilt. Flippin, Joe Hazard and Jeff Adams hunted the trail and started in pursuit. The thieves had three days start, and the trail had grown somewhat cold and in places obliterated by the passage of other stock over it, but the pursuers were no novices, and so they never lost the tracks. One of the animals stolen belonged to Flippen, and it had a mule shoe on the off fore foot, which on account of its greater squareness at the toe made it easier tracking. The thieves had started in the direction of the Pinto, where they camped two days, and then struck out for the pass in the Mogollons, back of Gordon's old ranch. Reaching the snow line there they struck out towards Tewksbury's ranch, and after caching the horses went on to the house. Old man Tewksbury was at home. The pursuers, anticipating just such action had previously reached the ranch, arranged with the old man to apprise them of the arrival of the thieves, and gone on to Stinson's, a mile further up the valley. Here they spent the night, and the next morning Tewksbury let them know that their men had arrived. The pursuing party immediately made for the ranch and arriving there, Flippen and Hazard in the lead, jumped in through the doorway of the house and covering their men ordered them to "throw up their props." Moore, was unarmed, and Logan had a brace of revolvers on, but he laughed nonchalantly, threw up his hands and submitted to disarming. Moore went with some of the men to get the stolen property, while Logan remained under surveillance. After the recovery of the property, Moore, watching his opportunity, made his escape, shoeless and hatless. Logan is in the jail in this place. The animals recovered were, three of Domingo's, one of Allen's and Flippen's, one of Caldwell's and one of Gordon's. A rifle and three pistols which had been stolen out of Hocker's house, on the Salt river, were also recovered. Logan was in Globe last September and December Church. He is a man of good ability, but evidently an ingrained rascal. Too much praise cannot be given the men who so promptly went in pursuit of the thieves. When it is borne in mind that in four days they travelled more than one hundred and fifty miles, over a country which in places was difficult to trail successfully, and captured their men and the stolen property the feat will be recognized as a remarkably good one.
