BLAINE DENOUNCES THE LIE
And Proves the Charge False From
the Beginning.
Boston, Jan. 10.—Senator Blaine, in
reply to the insinuations that he is im-
plicated in the alleged bribery cases in
Maine, telegraphs as follows:
Whatever the form or the phase of
the accusation, I pronounce it an un-
qualified calumny and merely a part of
a monstrous, wicked and unparalleled
conspiracy to deprive free people of
their suffrage by fraud, forgery and
perjury.
I am busy night and day in the task
of thwarting the conspiracy, and it is
merely a part of their dastardly and
despicable course to invent some form
of slander against me. I have not seen
the charge, but I know it is a lie out of
the whole cloth and I cannot now be
diverted from the real work in hand to
do more than to denounce the calumny
and its authors.
