Horse Thief in Limbo. A little piece of this illegal business has recently been developed, and the particulars, as we learn them, are these:

On Wednesday night last, a man visited the barn of J. F. Twiss, of Londonderry, this State, and helped himself to a tolerably good specimen of the equine race, with which he proceeded a couple of miles up this side, to the house of a man named Highland, of whom he borrowed a wagon, harness and buffalo, to come to Manchester, giving his name here as John Nicholas of Reading, Mass. He came to this city, arriving about 5 o'clock yesterday morning, and during the forenoon tried to swap horses with the various stable keepers here, with whom he was unsuccessful. He finally succeeded in exchanging horses with James B. Campbell, marble worker, who paid him "$15 to boot." High Sheriff Daniel L. Stevens got wind of the affair, and also received from Mr. Twiss a printed description of the rogue. He set about hunting him up, heard of his attempts to swap, and from various circumstances was led to the belief that Nicholas had gone over to Bedford to see Sherburne Dearborn. He last night aroused Mr. Campbell and they together went over to Bedford and found Nicholas at the residence of the person above mentioned. He was forthwith arrested and brought to this city, and will be tried as soon as parties interested can be informed and arrive to conduct the prosecution. All the stolen property has been recovered except $5 of the "$15 to boot." When arrested he was somewhat in liquor, gave his name as Stephen Buxton, and said he "didn't know whether he stole the hoss or not!"
